FAQ's
Who are Bloatertown?
We are a country dance band comprised of a group of musicians who have known each other and played together for many years. We play a lively mixture of mainly traditional British folk music. Click here to see the band.
What sort of music do you play?
We play mainly British traditional and traditional style music. Our rhythms are lively and tunes are chosen individually for each dance to drive the movement of the dance.
How does a country dance work?
The simple answer is, you assemble a group of people in a suitable venue, provide food and drink and we provide musicians, caller, public address system, dances and give everyone a good time.
Where can I hold my country dance?
Country dances work best where dancers have plenty of space to move around….. more space than for other types of dancing. Most village halls, hotel function rooms, school halls, social clubs etc are ideal. Gardens and marquees and barns can work well too, but whilst we can pick the tunes we can’t pick the weather and even on a June evening it can be very chilly when the sun has set.
How will dancers know how to do the dances?
Our Caller will explain every dance to you and guide you into ‘walking it through’ before we start the dance. The caller continues to ‘call’ the dance moves during the dance. It’s all done in a spirit of party fun. We have a very wide range of dances to choose from, ranging from beginner to expert, so our caller will choose the ones to suit your event.
How long does an event last.
Depending on your choice, the dance can last from 2 to 4 hours.
It depends on your arrangements. At a wedding or dinner you may choose to eat first and have your dance afterwards or you may prefer a buffet break during the evening. At any type of event, if you wish the Band to play for more than 2 hours, the Band will need to take a break, which can be taken during your food break, if you choose to have one.
